Happy Friday everyone! I saw this book tag a few weeks back over at A Fictional Bookworm and finally have it filled out and ready to share. Think this looks fun? Then I challenge you next!
Author you’ve read the most books from
Jim Butcher. THE DRESDEN FILES alone put me around 15 books, and I’ve started a few of his other series as well.
Best sequel ever
SCARLET by Marissa Meyer. CINDER did a good job of setting up this world, but SCARLET executed a sci-fi spin on Little Red Riding Hood that was clever without being on the nose. Still one of my favorite series.
SKYWARD by Brandon Sanderson
Drink of choice while reading
Coffee usually some kind of mocha blend. If it’s night, hot chocolate. It’s all about the chocolate.
Ereader or physical book
Fictional character you probably would have actually dated in high school
This technically doesn’t say it has to be from a book, so I’m going to say Hiccup from HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON. Awkward, intelligent boy with a dragon? Definitely dating pool material.
Glad you gave this book a chance
THE BEAR AND THE NIGHTINGALE by Katherine Arden. Picked this up at SDCC, did not expect to fall in love!
Hidden gem book
FORTUNE’S PAWN by Rachel Bach. Bad-ass female mercenary doing guard duty on a spaceship. It’s Firefly, but if Zoe Washburne had power armor. It’s a lot of fun and I appreciated the twists it took.
Important moment in your reading life
The first time I read Harry Potter. I had no idea what it was, and was given the book by my mom, who had had it recommended by a friend. I curled up in a chair, only intending to read a few chapters. A few hours later, I came out of a haze to realize I had finished the whole book without moving. I sat there bewildered for a moment, then flipped back to page one and started again. And thus, a love affair was begun.
TRAIL OF LIGHTNING by Rebecca Roanhorse
Kinds of books I won’t read
Horror. That genre just isn’t my cup of tea.
Longest book you’ve read
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell
Major book hangover because of
HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. Growing up, we bought one copy of the book for the whole family, and I got first dibs in part because I was the fastest reader. That meant as soon as the book showed up from Amazon (thank you release day delivery!) I was locked in my room reading for 8 hours straight. My dad brought me lunch and dinner so I didn’t have to take a break – he was next in line for the book and wanted me to finish! I was so drained after that experience, in all the best ways.
Number of bookcases you own
Two…but I really need more to corral the stacks that are accumulating on my floor!
One book you have read multiple times
Crown Duel. Come for the fight to take back the throne, stay for the second act PRIDE AND PREJUDICE-esque romance.
Preferred place to read
Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you have read
He didn’t know what to say, so he simply said, “Stay out of trouble.”
She flashed him a smile that said she wouldn’t, of course.
And then she tugged up her collar, shoved her hands into her pockets, and strolled away.
Kell watched her go.
She never once looked back.
–A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC, Victoria Schwab
I read a fantasy from the 80s called Sword-Dancer that I came across when cleaning out an office. I forced myself to finish and guys, I have discovered that pulp-fantasy is not for me.
Series you started and need to finish
Hahahaha, you want me to pick just one? Fine, this week, I’m all about finishing THE MURDERBOT DIARIES.
Three of your all-time favourite books
A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC by Victoria Schwab
ENCHANTRESS FROM THE STARS by Sylvia Engdahl
HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN by J.K. Rowling
Unapologetic Fangirl For
A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC by Victoria Schwab. I fell HARD for that series.
Very excited for this release more than all the others
WINTER OF THE WITCH by Katherine Arden (January 2019). I fell in love with this series and can’t wait for the last book in the trilogy!
Worst Bookish Habit
Reading book one of a series and taking two years to read the next, even if it’s already released.
X marks the spot: start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book
THE THOUSAND NAMES by Django Wexler. Yet another series I keep meaning to start….
Your latest book purchase
THE OBELISK GATE by NK Jemisin. Spotted it at a library sale and snatched it up!
ZZZ-snatcher book (last book that kept you up way too late)
I can’t remember which, but it was definitely one of THE RECKONERS book by Brandon Sanderson. The man knows how to write a finale!
