February 2019 Book Picks

Month Two of 2019, what to read, what to read?  After the massive overload of January, February is shaping up to be a quiet month, which I will whole heartedly accept as I try to catch up with new and old releases.  There’s still some good books dropping, so here are my picks for upcoming releases that I think are worth checking out!

THE RUIN OF KINGS by Jenn Lyons
Release Date: February 5th, 2019
I’ve been sitting on my ARC review for months, and now the book is finally going to be in the wild for the rest of you!  While I did have some issues with the book, my overall takeaway was positive enough that I gave it four out of five stars.  I thought there was some great tension between the two timelines and really liked the protagonist.  That said, you should also read Calvin Park’s review over at Bookdragon’s Nest – my fellow co-blogger was less enthused and had some very valid critiques. Despite that, I still stand by this book and definitely recommend.

POLARIS RISING by Jessie Mihalik
Release Date: February 5th, 2019
I am a sucker for a space opera, and I am a sucker for a space opera with dashing rogues.  Sounds like POLARIS RISING will be straight up my alley!  I haven’t read this one yet, but Tammy over at Books, Bones & Buffy was pretty high on it, so I’ve definitely flagged to pick up in the near future!

THE RAVEN TOWER by Ann Leckie
Release Date: February 26th, 2019
Another release I haven’t gotten my hands on yet!  This one comes from Ann Leckie, of ANCILLARY JUSTICE fame.  While the first book in her sci-fi trilogy broke my brain a little bit, it did so in the best possible way, so I’m on board to check out her fantasy debut.  This tells the tale of a world protected by a god known as the Raven – protected so long as his appointed human ruler continues the tradition of sacrificing their blood to him. When a usurper steals the throne, a warrior will come forward to try and put the rightful god-appointed ruler back in place – and uncover a dark conspiracy along the way.

What books are you looking forward to in February?

  1. I’m also looking forward to Polaris Rising! There are probably 10 books coming out this month that I’m excited about, this week is also the latest in The Vampire Knitting Club series and I’m super pumped for that one lol.
