Currently Reading/Recently Finished Reading: FOUNDRYSIDE by Robert Jackson Bennett
I am currently 100 pages shy of finishing FOUNDRYSIDE, so there is every likelihood this book will be completed by the time this post goes live.  This read was on the longer side for me to complete, but that’s okay because it’s GOOD.   In this world, sigils can be inscribed onto objects to “convince” them that of a certain reality.  For instance, you can inscribe on a piece of wood that it is stone, and that wood will become as hard as stone because it “believes” that is how it supposed to behave.  Or inscribe on a door that it always remains locked between midnight and 8am, and that door will refuse to open during those hours.  Our heroine Sancia is a thief commissioned to steal a certain artifact, and quickly learns she holds the only device capable of “convincing” objects to behave against the sigils inscribed on them – a device that many people would kill for.

Probable Next Read: LAKE SILENCE by Anne Bishop and/or PRIDE by Ida Zoboi
LAKE SILENCE remains at the top of my list and I suspect I will devour it rather quickly.  The added wrinkle in my TBR is that I lost track of my library holds and SURPRISE!  I had PRIDE checked out to me.  This is a modern-day retelling of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (a favorite of mine) set in Brooklyn, with the added spin of the tale being very focused on the Afro-Latino roots of the characters.  I enjoy seeing remixes of classic tales that bring a fresh approach, and PRIDE definitely seems like it will fit the bill!
