Currently Reading: ROSEWATER by Tade Thompson
With the sequel coming out this month, it was finally time to dive into my copy of the first book in the trilogy. I’ve really been enjoying the (relatively) recent surge of African-set SFF, as it adds new POVs, locations, and cultures into my reading. ROSEWATER is a weird, trippy science-fiction story set 30-40 years in the future in Nigeria, where strange alien artifacts have popped up around the globe and granted some people telepathic abilities. Jury is out on my final reaction to this one; there’s a LOT of time hops, to at least four different points in the main character’s life, which makes this particular narrative a bit hard to keep track of. I’m halfway through and should have this done by the end of the week – more then!
Recently Finished: SIX OF CROWS by Leigh Bardugo
This was a big gap in my YA reading check list, and I admit I was wary going in that the book had been overhyped. But OH MY GOODNESS it was an absolutely fantastic read! So much so that I have already ordered and received CROOKED KINGDOM to read next month! It features one of my favorite tropes (a band of misfits working together) and I loved some of the tension between various members of the group.
Probable Next Read: SEVEN BLADES IN BLACK by Sam Sykes
It’s been a fantastic few weeks catching up on some backlist books, but now it’s time to return to the ARC pile. First up is a fantasy revenge tale from Sam Sykes. I’ve never read one of his books before, but I’ve enjoyed following the author on Twitter, and honestly, a book about a woman stripped of everything who hunts down those who wronged her sounds pretty good to me!
