It’s a little scary to think we are already closing in on the halfway point of the year, but here we are! June is an INSANE month for anticipated releases, and I am desperately trying to catch up on my ARC pile so I can have some official thoughts for you other than “This sounds amazing!!!” Either way, here are my top choices for Most Anticipated Releases for June!

A SORCERY OF THORNS by Margaret Rogerson
Release Date: June 4th, 2019
This is the one June release I HAVE managed to start, and I have to say that so far, it is winning over my heart. In a world where books of magic spells start to gain a certain amount of sentience, an order of librarians keeps watch over troves of books that have the potential to turn into evil monsters under the right circumstances. Elisabeth is an apprentice at one such library, but when a disaster leaves her labeled a traitor and a murderer, she is handed over to the court of sorcerers for judgement. Elisabeth has been raised on what everyone knows: that sorcerers, who gain their power from demons, are evil and not to be trusted unless absolutely necessary. But with no one believing her innocence, she may just have to rely on a sorcerer for help.
VELOCITY WEAPON by Megan E. O’Keefe
Release Date: June 11th, 2019
I have to say, when I read the excerpt that Orbit posted a few months ago, this instantly jumped into my TBR. Now some early reviews are out and they are 1) fantastic and 2) making comparisons to MASS EFFECT, one of my favorite video game franchises of all time, so WHY HAVEN’T I READ THIS YET?? This is next up on my TBR after A SORCERY OF THORNS, can’t wait to check it out! The short summary is that a brother and sister are trying to put an end to an intergalactic war, with one catch – an accident has flung the sister two hundred years into the future, where it appears that both sides of the conflict have been destroyed.
EMPRESS OF FOREVER by Max Gladstone
Release Date: June 18th, 2019
I haven’t heard too much about this one yet, but I’ve been promised a feminist Guardians of the Galaxy meets Star Wars, so yes, this is definitely on my list. I picked up this ARC during my panicked request flail last month, so it’s on the TBR to read this month! A female scientist from our Earth accidentally is flung far into the future (is there a theme this month?) where she has to assemble a group of misfits to take on the Empress of Forever, who has enough power to wipe out planets with a thought.
WICKED FOX by Kat Cho
Release Date: June 25th, 2019
And now for something a little different, how about a contemporary fantasy YA based on Korean mythology? Miyoung is a gumiho, a girl who can take the form of a nine-tailed fox. To live, she has to drain the life force from a human at least once a month. Miyoung has been surviving by attacking abusive men, trying to at least turn her cursed needs into something good. But when an accident intertwines her fate with a boy named Jihoon, she may have to choose between his life and her own.
Those are my picks for the month. What are you looking forward to?
June is a crazy month! So many new releases I want to read. I’ll be reading Velocity Weapon and Empress of Forever as well. Hope we love them!

I got a surprise copy of A SORCERY OF THORNS, so I will probably check it out at some point. And I’m looking forward to Wicked Fox, but still waiting for my Bookish First package! How about you?

Mine has not arrived yet! I feel like the last few I’ve gotten from them came pretty close to release.

Ah, thanks for letting me know! I’ve only scored one other book from BF in the past, and they sent it two and a half months before release, but now that I know it can come very close to pub date, I can relax 🙂

This is my third; the first one I got took MONTHS to show up, but it did arrive before release.

A couple of these look really great to me but I am so hesitant to add them to my official list because I am soooooooo far behind on new releases as is. Too many good books, it’s a good problem to have I guess lol.

I will say, Sorcery of Thorns is turning into a delightful gothic fantasy where books are living creatures who will nuzzle you. (The nice ones at least.)
