Currently Reading: THE DAZZLING HEIGHTS by Katharine McGee
For this week’s Sci-Fi Month read, I’ve picked up the sequel to THE THOUSANDTH FLOOR. This read is what I would term “sci-fi lite;” it is largely a typical soapy YA drama, full of love triangles, parties, murder, the usual, except in this case, it all takes place 100 years in the future. And really, it’s this shell of future tech, the text messages projected on lenses and a whole city contained in a skyscraper and more, that has somehow hooked me into a series which normally wouldn’t be in my wheel house. I’m almost halfway through this and hoping to finish in the next day or two.
Recently Finished: A MEMORY CALLED EMPIRE by Arkady Martine
WOW what a read this was. Easily in my Top Five for 2019. You can go find my full review here, but suffice to say if you like space operas full of court politics and murder and a government that might be on the verge of collapse – you’ve got to check this one out. That’s it, that’s the update.
Probable Next Read: THERE BEFORE THE CHAOS by K.B. Wagers
I got a very generous review package from Orbit last week, and among the goodies was the sequel to THERE BEFORE THE CHAOS! Only problem is….I haven’t read THERE BEFORE THE CHAOS. What I have read is the full INDRANAN WAR Trilogy, which featured Hail Bristol, a princess who spent two decades as a gun runner before a series of assassinations at the imperial court left her next in line to the throne. This new trilogy turns it’s focus from Hail’s empire to relations with the Farians, an alien race who, until recently, have maintained a fair distance from humanity. I loved the first trilogy, and got CHAOS for Christmas last year, and it kills me that I haven’t read it! I was planning on reading this for Sci-Fi Month anway, so now I just have extra incentive!
