This week for Top Five Tuesday, Bionic Book Worm would like to know what our most anticipated upcoming releases are! Since I’ve already written an extensive post about the books I’m looking forward to in the early months of 2020, I decided to turn my gaze to the back half of the year. These are the books that I’m CURRENTLY most excited about and by absolutely no means is in any way shape or form comprehensive of the books that are on my TBR. But let’s peek behind the curtain, shall we?
If you fancy any of these, I’m linking all the covers to their Goodreads pages!
PEACE TALKS by Jim Butcher
July 2020
THE DRESDEN FILES is on of my favorite series of all time. What started as a tale of a wizard detective in Chicago has slowly ballooned into a tale of a man caught between the political machinations of fae, vampires, angels and more. It’s been a number of years since the last entry in the series (which is celebrating its 20th anniversary!) and I am SO excited to have a new installment in my hands!.
TEN ARROWS OF IRON by Sam Sykes
August 2020
SEVEN BLADES IN BLACK was a favorite read of 2019, so of course the sequel is on the list! Sal the Cacophony is still on the hunt to avenge herself on the people who betrayed her and stole her magic. But in between revenge, she still has time for side jobs. In this case, participating in a heist to steal a fleet of airships known as the Ten Arrows. I fully expect plenty of shenanigans and feels (and chocobos murder birds) in this next fantasy adventure.
THE MEMORY OF SOULS by Jenn Lyons
August 2020
A CHORUS OF DRAGONS has been a series that has been all over the place for me. At the end of the day, I’ve devoured both books in the series. I love the pace of the writing, and Janel, the protagonist of THE NAME OF ALL THINGS, was one of my favorite characters of 2019. Nevertheless, this series is always a question mark for me, in no small part because I find the soul magic at the heart of the story utterly baffling. Gods and people are reincarnated to an absurd degree, and then on top of that, the souls sometimes swap bodies. AND YET, these are always books I cannot put down. So even though I go into this book with reservations, I can’t leave it off my Most Anticipated List.
A DESOLATION CALLED PEACE by Arkady Martine
Fall 2020
This is the sequel to space opera A MEMORY CALLED EMPIRE, one of my favorite reads of 2019! Martine has turned out to be an author who can deftly write action and intrigue, while also providing plenty of commentary on colonization and how it affects language and culture. I’m very much looking forward to seeing another installment in this universe. (*Note: The internet is now telling me this might not be released until 2021, but I’m leaving it on the list in the hopes I can summon it into existence sooner!)
THE RHYTHM OF WAR/STORMLIGHT ARCHIVES Book 4 by Brandon Sanderson
Fall 2020
I still have one full book and and an interstitial book to read before this comes out , but I will always be excited for a new Brandon Sanderson! I actually don’t know too much about the plot since I’m not fully caught up with the series, but this is a high fantasy series with all kinds of strange creatures and world building. While THE WAY OF KINGS was a bit slow in places, WORDS OF RADIANCE definitely started putting things into motion in a big way.
What books are you looking forward to later this year?
I really need to pick up The seven blades of black, that one sounds so good!
I’m very excited for Stormlight archive #4, and just like you I have book 3 and a short story to go first!

The first book of the Stormlight Archive was my first Sanderson book and I told myself that since that day that I’d read all of his books! Although I won’t get around to the 4th book at its release, I’m still super pumped for it too hahaha 😛 Great picks! I also need to check out a Jim Butcher book for the first one. 😮

I’ve read books from 4 different Sanderson series to date, and I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed. Dresden Files is a series I devour, I’m almost contemplating a reread ahead of the new book this summer….but there’s like 15 books in the series so that would take some time!

I can’t wait for Ten Arrows of Iron! And I hate to admit this out loud but I’ve only read the first of the Dresden books. It’s a series I really want to read through. I may start it over this year.

Do it! It’s one that starts with simple premise and just keeps building the mythology with every book. I’d really like to do a reread at some point….

I know, I keep forgetting to mention it when people ask what I’m excited about later in the year. Now the true debate, do I go back and reread Skin Game…I think that was the last one…right?

Haha, I’d have to look. I binged them all over the course of a year like…two years ago?
