Currently Reading: THE ANGEL OF THE CROWS by Katherine Addison
What if Sherlock Holmes was a supernatural creature solving crimes in an alt-history London where every public building has a patron angel, werewolves are real, and Jack the Ripper was stalking the streets? That’s the hidden premise of THE ANGEL OF THE CROWS, a story that borrows from the Holmes mythology way more than I anticipated (they live at 221 Baker Street and interact with Inspector Lestrade). Still, it’s a well written collection of murder mysteries and if nothing else is a soothing world to disappear into this week.
Recently Finished Reading: THE KINGDOM OF LIARS by Nick Martell and THE ORDER OF THE PURE MOON REFLECTED IN WATER by Zen Cho
There comes a time in every reader’s life when they bounce off something that the rest of the community enjoys, and apparently it’s my turn! I finished THE KINGDOM OF LIARS and….did not like it. I unfortunately found the writing rough and the world-building too vague in parts, and could not get into this intrigue-filled fantasy. My review will be up later this week, but since I seem to be in the minority, I also want to link up to Bibliosanctum and NovelNotions‘ reviews, two reviewers who found a lot to love!
I then squeezed in THE ORDER over the weekend, and found it to be an enjoyable read if not particularly memorable. But if the tale of a group of bandits who find themselves saddled with a mischievous nun as they travel to deliver some illegal goods sounds like a fun way to pass a few hours, you should pick it up!
Probable Next Read: THE VENTIFACT COLOSSUS by Dorian Hart
Given world events, Mood Read May might continue into June, but I’m going to see how long I can stay on my originally planned TBR. For now, I’m leaning towards tackling a self-published read, especially given that I didn’t get to one last month. THE VENTIFACT COLOSSUS is a story of a group gathered together by a mage to go on a simple mission that quickly spirals into a much more alarming and world-threatening affair. I got a very D&D-inspired vibe when I read the first few chapters, and it seems like a good escapism read for the coming week.
And that’s this week in reading! What are you up to?
Enjoy your reading!
I really need to pick up my ARCs for The angel of the crow and The order of the pure moon reflected as well!

Too bad The Kingdom of Liars didn’t click with you, but to be honest, the debut has been mixed received for several good reasons! So you’re definitely not alone! 🙂

Thanks for that! It’s always weird when you feel like you’re the only one enjoying/not enjoying a book.

Sad to hear you didn’t like The Kingdom of Liars, especially since it’s so long. But I am looking forward to The Angel of the Crows😁

I really want to read The Order of the Pure Moon but I’ve been hearing similar things…I’m sad that it might be very average. Still going to check it out though!

I hope to read soon The Kingdom of Liars, and I am sorry that this was a disappointing read. I hope to be luckier with it, but I am looking forward to your review! And I was just approved for The Angel of the Crows on NetGalley, so I hope to read that one, too!
Also, the other two books seem pretty interesting, too!!!!! Have a good reading week!
