Monthly Wrap-Up: August 2020

Well this was a weird month for reading.  I only finished three books (I’ve been averaging six), though I did get a good chunk of the way into a fourth. Part of this is because I have a number of sizable tomes on my plate, and reading 600 pages books obviously takes longer than reading 350 page books. But I have also been dealing with some life changes in the work department (thanks COVID), so freelancing has become my new way of life, which has drastically cut into my reading and writing time.

Don’t worry, the blog isn’t going anywhere! I just won’t be posting every single weekday like I did in the past. There are some fantastic reading events ahead, including Self-Published Fantasy Month in September, and Sci-Fi Month in November. My backlist reading is probably going to be on hold while I catch-up on some owed reviews, but there’s always next year for a fresh start!

Great Series Read Project

While I might not have read a ton this month, at the very least they were all sequels! The biggest accomplishment was finishing OATHBRINGER, getting me nice and ready for THE RHYTHM OF WAR later this year. The other sequels, CHAOS VECTOR and THE MEMORY OF SOULS, were review copies, and have kept me up-to-speed with some on-going series. I’m also a good way through my review copy of THE NEMESIS, which will finish a full trilogy for me! Due to the sheer volume of books coming out in the next few months, I might not be able to delve into my backlist projects as much as I would like, but I’m hoping that at the very least I can read THE CROSSER’S MAZE, sequel to THE VENTIFACT COLOSSUS, as part of Self-Published Fantasy Month.

Reviews

OATHBRINGER by Brandon Sanderson – 4.5/5 Stars
CHAOS VECTOR by Megan E. O’Keefe – 4/5 Stars
THE MEMORY OF SOULS by Jenn Lyons – 3.5/5 Stars – Review to Come!

  1. The best time I had since covid started was when I only had to work part time, and i got so much reading done! I guess I should be grateful that I even have a job but that was a nice change of pace. Good luck!

  2. UGH Covid is messing everything up. I hope your new work situation is good or gets resolved in a good way. Our business has not picked up at work and I’m seriously worried I’ll still have a job come end of year. Anyway, I hope things work out!
