Finally starting to get back on track after a summer of tomes derailed by review TBR. I’m still behind, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel! I read five books this month, and got halfway through a sixth, so I’m back at my normal speed! Should be almost caught up by the end of October…just in time for RHYTHM OF WAR to show up and derail everything all over again. But we’re not going to think about that now. Instead, let’s see what books I DID get to this month!
Also, shout out to the absolutely completely terrible WordPress editor, which has made adding photos to a post an agonizing experience. I have yet to figure out how to resize galleries, so apologies for the massive size of any photos down below.
Self-Published Fantasy Month
September marked the return of Self-Published Fantasy Month, and a delightful time was had by all! In my wildest dreams, I had fantasies of reading more SP books off my list, but I got through two instead, which I still consider an accomplishment. First was THE THIEF WHO PULLED ON TROUBLE’S BRAIDS, which was an absolute blast, and I will definitely be reading more in this series. Then I read standalone THE SWORD OF KAIGEN, which has been at the top of my TBR for a year and a half. KAIGEN was nothing like I expected it to be, and yet an incredibly fascinating and heartbreaking read! A full review should go up in a few days.
Great Series Read Project Update
Only one sequel read this month, HARROW THE NINTH. I have a few sequels on deck for October, however, including BLOOD & HONEY and self-published sequel THE CROSSER’S MAZE, so I’ll make up for it going forward! I haven’t been able to continue with the SPELLSLINGER series, that may be on hold until December when I (hopefully) have my ARC pile under control.

And that’s a wrap on September! What did you read this month?
I’m reading The Nemesis right now! I have been waiting for it for so long and I have no idea why so many people have slept on this trilogy!

For whatever reason, YA sci-fi just doesn’t get as big as YA fantasy. Hope you enjoy The Nemesis!

Or it gets big only if it has an ensemble cast 😦
So far I’m liking it!

Sword of Kaigen is so good! And I cannot wait to pick up The Nemesis! I might do a reread of the other two first though

I reread them at the end of last year, so they were still mostly fresh, but I did have to double check a few things!

The new editor is awful! I can’t do all my formatting the way I used to and everything takes longer and is more inconvenient, like….wth?
Anyway, glad that your reading is back on track! Hope you have a great October, Caitlin!

Sadly, Harrow the Ninth will probably be placed on the backburner. I loved her character in the first book, but I’m bummed I’m mostly seeing mediocre reviews for this sequel.
