I’m taking a cue from Nicole over at Thoughts Stained With Ink and listing out five books I’m hoping to get to before the year is out! I’m in the midst of a review catch-up right now, but December, as always, is looking blissfully quiet (for now), so I’m hoping to squeeze in a few more books that AREN’T on the review stack. Let’s see what we have, shall we?
If any of these books strike your fancy, I’ve linked the covers to Goodreads!
SOULBINDER by Sebastien de Castell
The Great Series Read Project has been very helpful at getting me through this series! So far I’ve read three of the six books, and I’ve got book four purchased and waiting for a slot in my TBR! I’ve been reading a lot of sequels for review, so I have been neglecting the backlist side of my project, but it would be great to get through one more book in this series, especially since I read them SO fast!
THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA by T.J. Klune
This has essentially been dubbed the feel good book of the year, and was a steal on Kindle during a sale earlier this year. It’s a standalone, so no commitment, plus a found family of misfits, so what’s not to love? Not sure when I’ll have the space, but hopefully December will be kind to me.
REALM OF ASH by Tasha Suri
Okay, this one I feel bad about. The lovely folks at Orbit sent me both EMPIRE OF SAND and REALM OF ASH last December. I read (and thoroughly enjoyed EMPIRE OF SAND), but haven’t made my way to the standalone sequel yet! The first book was a slow burn fantasy romance, and I’ve had a hankering for more of those lately (thanks THE UNTAMED!) so FINALLY reading this would be great all around!
BATTLE GROUND by Jim Butcher
Let it be a testament to how busy I am that I haven’t gotten to the latest DRESDEN FILES book yet! Believe me, as soon as I get through my review stack, this is very, VERY high up on my priority list. PEACE TALKS was essentially part one of two, ending very abruptly, so I’m eager to get back to see where all the chips fall in this very climactic book.
THE HANGED MAN by K.D. Edwards
There are a few books I keep twitching to grab off the shelf and read, and THE HANGED MAN is one of them. It took me a bit to warm up to THE LAST SUN, but that book had a hell of a finale, and I really enjoyed the novella story set between books one and two. It’s found family (always a fave) and some interesting sigil magic where spells most spells must be prepped and stored ahead of time. One day I may be just completely irresponsible and sit down with this book, but for now, it gets an honored spot in my top five MUST READ NOW.
