Wow….is it really time for me to start thinking about end of year Best Of lists? 2020 still has a month to go, which means it will probably feel like another half year but still, it’s a relief to have it almost behind us. As for reading, it continues to be slower than my average these last few years. Normally I get through about 6 books a month, I’m currently down to four. Part of that is I’ve been playing more video games lately; with all the staying at home, my brain has been craving an activity that requires a little more input from me than just passive consumption (my TV/movie watching is also down).
My current freelance work also involves a fair bit of writing, so I’ve been a bit drained when it comes to writing my own blog stuff. It’s why I haven’t posted as much lately, and why my Sci-Fi Month participation this year was limited to reviews. Just not enough brain space to think up topics! BUT I’m looking forward to pulling together my Best Of lists and an overview on how the Great Series Read Project went this year (spoiler, it went a lot better than the first year)!
Great Series Read Project Update
Two sequels read this month! The first is THE BURNING GOD, an ARC which allowed me to complete THE POPPY WAR trilogy, checking off another full series off my list. It’s very satisfying knowing I’ve managed to keep up with a series and that it is finished and will be one less release taking up a slot on my review requests in the next year. Which is especially important because I started three new series this month, two of which only have one book out so far! But the big news for me and the GSRP is that I’m FINALLY reading RECORD OF A SPACEBORN FEW, one of those sequels I keep meaning to read but never really get to. This kind of situation is the reason I started the GSRP to begin with, to motivate me to ACTUALLY read the sequels. So huzzah to me! Now to just read book four when it comes out next year….

Looks like a great month for you!
Believe it or not I’ve already started most of my end of year posts. I don’t need the end of December to sneak up on me while I’m busy relaxing with mood reading hahaha. I can’t believe this year is almost over but I’m sure not going to miss it either. Enjoy your December!

I definitely believe it! I’m planning on starting to at least pull my lists together this week so I can start writing them up. I’ll probably get a few more books in before the year ends, but I suspect my choices for Best Of will hold!

I totally relate to the desire to game while confined. The visual and dynamic escape that video games offer us is just too irresistible these days! 😀 Glad to see that you completed Kuang’s trilogy! I still need to read book 2 and 3 of that series myself. Hope you’ll have fun this December looking back on the year and the final days of this chaotic year! 😀
