Shadow of a Dead God  Record of a Spaceborn Few  The Silvered Serpents

Currently Reading: SHADOW OF A DEAD GOD by Patrick Samphire
I missed my goal of a self-published read for November, so I’m starting my December read with one. And if I’m good, maybe I’ll start a second later this month! I’m only about 10% in, so my thoughts are limited, but I’ve found it interesting how much this reads like a 1940s hard-boiled detective novel – but in a fantasy city with multiple gods and mages. Look for more thoughts next week!

Recently Finished: RECORD OF A SPACEBORN FEW by Becky Chambers
My last read for Sci-Fi Month was an absolutely cozy little gem by Becky Chambers, book 3 in her loosely-connected WAYFARERS series. This is an ultimate slice-of-life type read. Occasionally bad things happen, but for the most part, it’s people living their lives on space stations, trying to figure out if they’re stuck in a rut or upholding important traditions. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a low-key sci-fi read. And best of all, this was THE book I wanted to read for Sci-Fi Month, as it’s been on my TBR for too long!

Probable Next Read: THE SILVERED SERPENTS by Roshani Chokshi
After SHADOW OF A DEAD GOD, I’m going to continue working on my review pile with THE SILVERED SERPENTS, a sequel that came out in (eek!) September. I’m hoping to alternate ARCs with mood reads this month and see what progress can be made on both! THE SILVERED SERPENTS is the sequel to THE GILDED WOLVES, about a group of magical thieves. While I had some issues with the writing in the first book, I absolutely ADORED the characters and am excited to be back for another adventure with them.

And that’s what I’m reading this week. What are you up to?

  1. I’m VERY intrigued by Shadow of a Dead God. I love hardboiled detective fiction, I read a lot of Dashiell Hammett as a teen and been getting back into the genre a bit recently. Read The Big Sleep for the first time a couple months ago and enjoyed it a lot. Plan to read all of Chandler’s other stuff over the course of 2021 too.
