Currently Reading: THE BLACKTONGUE THIEF by Christopher Buehlman
I decided to jump to my ARC of THE BLACKTONGUE THIEF because I’ve been reading a lot on my iPad lately (I use my Kindle app there for my ereader) and I wanted to give my eyes a break for a few days. So hardcopy it is! I’m moving along at a good clip with this, should probably have it finished by the weekend. Early impressions are its fun, but if you do not like crass references, definitely skip ahead. The pages are littered with references to every kind of excrement as part of its cursing, and while I can tolerate it, it’s definitely a feature I could do without. Still, I’m finding the lore intriguing, it’s almost a kind of post-apocalyptic fantasy, in that a great war wiped out a lot of the population, and things like horses are incredibly rare because of plagues that were unleashed by the enemy during the war. We’ll see where this one goes!
Recently Finished: THE HOUSE OF ALWAYS by Jenn Lyons
Finished book 4 in A CHORUS OF DRAGONS just in time to get a review up for release and WOW what a ride. As always, I’d be hard pressed to explain the actual events of the book to another human being, but I was hooked from the get-go. You can find my review here, but if you are interested in dragons, assassination attempts, kraken, LGBTQ relationships for days, confusing family trees and non-linear storytelling, you should definitely check this series out!
Probable Next Read: ????
I honestly have no clue what I’m going to read after THE BLACKTONGUE THIEF. The next several weeks have a ton of chonky books, not least of which is the nearly 900 page MASTER ARTIFICER, as well as Tasha Suri’s THE JASMINE THRONE. I’m also hoping to sneak in BEFORE THEY ARE HANGED as a backlist read at some point this month. To top it all off, Wyrd and Wonder is great, but I’m burning out slightly on fantasy, so I might sneak in my sci-fi review copy of GOODBYE TO THE SUN next. Actually, as I type this, that sounds good, switching off to a short sci-fi novel, just to cleanse the palate…well, tune in next week to see what I ACTUALLY decide!
