Currently Reading: BEFORE THEY ARE HANGED by Joe Abercrombie
I missed by weekly check-in post last week, as the apartment above mine flooded Tuesday morning, causing a waterfall of water in my own apartment. Thankfully most of the damage was contained to a bathroom, but there’s been workers in and out for over a week stripping drywall and running fans to dry the wood out.
Thankfully, I’m in the middle of a VERY good read, which is nice to balance out all the other crazy. Unsurprisingly, I am loving BEFORE THEY ARE HANGED, easily being pulled from one chapter to the next. Hoping to have this finished in the next few days, if life permits.
Recently Finished: THE BLACKTONGUE THIEF by Christopher Buehlman and GOODBYE TO THE SUN by Jonathan Nevair
Since I last checked in, I’ve finished two books! Unfortunately, I bounced a bit off both. I was surprised that THE BLACKTONGUE THIEF got only a “so-so” review from me; there were parts I did really enjoy, but I could not get into the writing style for some reason. GOODBYE TO THE SUN, a new small press sci-fi space opera, had some interesting world-building, but didn’t quite sell me on the characters. I’ve linked to both reviews, so go check them out!
Probable Next Read: FOR THE WOLF by Hannah Whitten
After finishing up my backlist read, I’m diving into FOR THE WOLF, part one of a new fantasy romance duology! This releases in early June, and while I probably won’t have a review up in time for release, I should be pretty close. FOR THE WOLF is a Red Riding Hood-inspired tale, where Red is a second daughter, sacrificed to the creature in the forest known as the Wolf in the Wood. I’ve been curious about this ever since it popped onto my radar, looking forward to checking it out!
And that’s my week in reading – let me know what you’re up to in the comments!
