The Jasmine Throne  Six Crimson Cranes  58011718._sx318_

Currently Reading: THE JASMINE THRONE by Tasha Suri
This ARC read is long overdue! I honestly would have gotten to it sooner, but I was traveling for the first part of July, and didn’t want to lug around such a hefty book that was going to risk getting damaged in the process. But now that I’m home, it’s finally time! I haven’t started yet (thanks work) but I’ve enjoyed Suri’s work in the past and I’ve seen several great reviews for it. THE JASMINE THRONE is about a captive princess and a hand maid, the latter of which has secret magic powers. When the princess finds out, she hatches a plan to use those powers to escape and overthrow her brother.

Recently Finished: SIX CRIMSON CRANES by Elizabeth Lim, CHAOS RISING by Timothy Zahn, CROWNBREAKER by Sebastien de Castell, A PSALM FOR THE WILD-BUILT by Becky Chambers, and FEAR AND FURY by Jamie Jackson
WOW, that’s a lot! As mentioned above, I traveled a good chunk of early July; my sister gave birth and so I tagged along with my parents to road trip up to Oregon and visit her. I was 1) not in charge of driving and 2) still blessed with the ability to read in cars, so I managed to get a good amount of reading done!

I won’t go over all my reads here, but I will flag a few for attention. SIX CRIMSON CRANES is a fantastic YA fantasy and well worth a read if the premise sounds remotely interesting – you can find my review for that one here! I also just finished a review copy of the self-published FEAR AND FURY, a dark adventure set in a world of superheroes and villains. It’s fairly short and kept me pretty well hooked the entire time. Hope to have a review up this week or next, but short version is, this one should be on more people’s radars! It’s got a quippy heroine, plenty of action, and a splash of romance on top.

Probable Next Read:???
I’m letting July be just a complete mood read month. I’m still knocking out ARCs so my TBR doesn’t COMPLETELY spiral, but with August fairly light at the moment, I’m allowing myself to enjoy reading whatever the heck I want. I suspect THE JASMINE THRONE will take me a number of days to get through, so I’ll wait and see what I’m in the mood for when I’m done! At the moment, I’m leaning towards trying to read HERE AND NOW AND THEN by Mike Chen, I read I took on vacation but didn’t have time to get to. We’ll see what happens!

  1. I’ve heard Mike Chen on a few podcasts and he sounds like a lovely guy who writes some nice, quieter books but with lots of *feelings*. Look forward to hearing what you think if you do read Here And Now And Then cos don’t think I’ve actually seen any bloggers talking about his books before.

    1. They’ve popped up here and there on my timeline, always with high compliments about, as you say, the *feelings.* All of the synopsis sound like really interesting premises for character work!
