Monthly Book Haul: August 2021

Only ARCs hauled this month, which is probably for the best! With fall comes a TON of new releases, and I’m desperately trying to stay on top of what’s coming out! So let’s dive in!

If any of these strike your fancy, I’ve linked the cover to Goodreads!

ARCs/Review Copies

Blood of the Chosen  Jade Legacy  Elder Race

BLOOD OF THE CHOSEN by Django Wexler
Last year’s ASHES OF THE SUN was a terrific read, one of those sci-fi adventures that skirts the border of fantasy. Wexler did a great job of creating a world that felt lived in, and set up some doozy storylines for the sequel. The first book set up a brother and sister who haven’t seen each other in years, reunited only to find themselves on opposite sides of a brewing civil war. Honestly, I’m going to need a refresher going into this, but I’m very excited to return to this world. (Humble Brag: the blurb inside from Fantasy Book Critic is actually from my review of their site! I think this is the first time I’ve actually been blurbed in a book, so I’m beyond excited!)

JADE LEGACY by Fonda Lee
Oh my god it’s finally here. The finale to THE GREEN BONE SAGA is upon us. I’m SO GRATEFUL I got an ARC, and while it will be a moment before I read it, this is one of my most anticipated releases of 2021. JADE CITY and JADE WAR have some of the best written characters I’ve ever encountered, and Lee has built a world so real I feel like I could book plane tickets for it. Seriously, if you haven’t read these books yet, get on it!

ELDER RACE by Adrian Tchaikovsky
Lastly, we have a novella from Tordotcom! I’ve actually never read Adrian Tchaikovsky’s work before, so this will be my first outing with the author. The premise was too intriguing to pass up: a junior anthropologist must help the people he’s studying without revealing his true purpose for being on the planet in the first place. The jacket makes it seem like maaaaybe the locals have gotten the idea that he’s some kind of wizard and he hasn’t disabused them of the notion. This is giving me vibes of a book that was a favorite of mine when I was younger, ENCHANTRESS FROM THE STARS. ELDER RACE releases in November, so you’ll be able to pick it up soon!

  1. I think you’re going to love Adrian Tchaikovsky! He’s never disappointed me yet, he’s the reason I started on sci-fi. I can’t see Elder Race on my NetGalley so it must just be American? Anyway, I’m very jealous and I hope you enjoy!
