Snowspelled  Voidbreaker  Blood of the Chosen

Currently Reading: SNOWSPELLED by Stephanie Burgis
A rare reread for me! I’ve been wanting to return to the HARWOOD SPELLBOOK series, but it’s been two years since I read SNOWSPELLED, and I only remember the broad strokes. So time to start all over! These regency fantasy books are fairly short, novella length affairs, so it should be a relatively quick back in time before I’m ready for the other books in this series. SNOWSPELLED is set in a world where men are magicians and ladies are politicians, and generally those gender roles aren’t crossed – until Cassandra Harwood becomes the first lady magician in Angland.

Recently Finished: VOIDBREAKER by David Dalglish
WOW, that was a finale! We’re talking armies, dragons, gods, demi-gods and more all duking it out to determine the literal fate of the world. VOIDBREAKER managed to put real emotional stakes into magical fights, and throughout the series, it has presented problems with no clean answers. Hoping to get my full review up later this week, but if you like magic and monsters and dark fantasy, THE KEEPERS series is worth a read!

Probable Next Read: BLOOD OF THE CHOSEN by Django Wexler
It’s time! I really loved last year’s ASHES OF THE SUN, a book that lives in that genre space where fantasy and sci-fi are practically indistinguishable. It presented me with a world that felt lived-in, with grimy underworld cities, dangerous ruins, and more. It’s also hard to escape the STAR WARS-vibes leaking off it, but the magic and lore has plenty to distinguish it from that series. More thoughts to come next week!

  1. I actually just read a review for Stephanie Burgos’ newest book, Scales and Sensibility, and tbh it’s not a genre I’d have given a second glance to a few months ago, but then I read The Midnight Bargain and realised fantasy romance can actually be INCREDIBLE and I’m very tempted to dive more into the genre 😃

    1. I haven’t read Midnight Bargain, but it definitely seems like something I’d enjoy! SNOWSPELLED is great because it’s only like 150 pages, but you still have a fun fantasy romance adventure, complete with elf lords trying to screw things up by twisting the words of your promises.
