Wow, September was a great month for reading! I got through 6 books (helped along by two of them being novellas), including a rare reread, a series finale, and TWO self-published books! I’ve also realized that my book acquistion, including ARCs has slowed to a trickle; I went to write my monthly book haul post and found I’d hauled no ARCs and had bought a single book (EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE). And you know what? I’m okay with that! I’ve got plenty of backlist books staring at me with guilt, and after a year of trying my best to limit ARC requests, I feel like the pendulum is starting to swing in favor of backlist. 2021 saw a LOT of series I was reading coming to a close, meaning my anticipated requests for 2022 is looking pretty light (as of writing this I have exactly one 2022 ARC). I still anticipate having an ARC pile, mainly from Orbit, but if the next few months see me reading three or four backlist books instead of one or two, I’m actually going to be very happy about that!
In the meantime, next month doesn’t have a ton of backlist, but does have three recent releases I bought for myself because they were HIGHLY anticipated and for one reason or another I couldn’t get an ARC! Looking forward to EMPIRE OF A VAMPIRE, THE BRONZED BEASTS, and VESPERTINE, and if my schedule permits, starting on JADE LEGACY. There will be a few other self-published and novella ARCs as well, so stay tuned for reviews!
Great Series Read Update
It’s always a good month when I can check a full series off my list! This month, I read VOIDBREAKER, finishing up THE KEEPERS series by David Dalglish. Really glad I made time to continue through with this series, it’s gotten better with each book! I also took the time to reread SNOWSPELLED by Stephanie Burgis, book one in a series of regency fantasy novellas. The goal is to read sequel THORNBOUND next month, and likely continue on to the other spinoff books in the months to come! My review copy of BLOOD OF THE CHOSEN means I was able to continue with Django Wexler’s BURNINGBLADE & SILVEREYE series, so I’ll be caught up with where that trilogy is when I’m finished! Next month I’m hoping to check off two more series, reading THE BRONZED BEASTS to finish THE GILDED WOLVES trilogy, and (fingers crossed) getting to my ARC of JADE LEGACY, finishing that epic trilogy (and probably having my heart broken in the process).
