Currently Reading: EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE by Jay Kristoff
As expected, I’m still working on this 750 page vampire tome, but I’m actually moving through it surprisingly quickly. It’s been a book that I’ve found myself sneaking in whenever I have some free time, and I suspect I’ll have it finished in the next few days! Kristoff has a really engrossing writing style that make the pages fly by, and a surprising dual time line structure has me invested in two very different events. For those who don’t like books that jump around in time, rest assured, you spend several chapters in a row in one time period before jumping to the other, so it’s not nearly as jarring as other books (looking at you THE RUIN OF KINGS). I should also note, like Kristoff’s other books, this is full of brutal violence, sex, and foul language for days, so if any of those are a turn off, perhaps move along to the next book.

Recently Finished: N/A

Probable Next Read: THORNBOUND by Stephanie Burgis and/or THE LIVING WATERS by Dan Fitzgerald
Still planning to pick up a novella when I’ve finished EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE, so THORNBOUND here I come! I suspect that will only take me a day or so, then it will be on to another self-published read, THE LIVING WATERS! This new duology is being pitched as a “sword-free fantasy,” about two nobles who find themselves journeying through a mythical wetlands known as the Living Waters. Should be quite the change of pace from the very brutal EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE!
