Currently Reading: THE STARDUST THIEF by Chelsea Abdullah and THRAWN ASCENDENCY: GREATER GOOD by Timothy Zahn
Posting my check-in a day early because tomorrow is the start of Wyrd and Wonder! For those unfamiliar, Wyrd and Wonder is an annual month-long celebration of all things fantasy. Anybody can participate, you just have to share your love in a post or a vlog or a tweet threat about any topic you want! As part of the event, the hosts have provided some Top Five prompts for Sundays, and I’ll be doing a few of those in the coming weeks.
But back to what I’m reading! I decided to change up my reading order to try and get ahead on my May reviews before catching up on the April ones I missed. That means I’ve started THE STARDUST THEIF, which is definitely intriguing so far. It has nods to elements of ONE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS, like a character who names their band of warriors the Forty Thieves, but feels like its own story. More to report next week! Also continuing my read of GREATER GOOD, though I put it on hold for a bit while I tore through SHOREFALL. I’m about a third done, so we’ll see if I can finish it off in another week or two!
Recently Finished: SHOREFALL by Robert Jackson Bennett
This book moves at an incredibly breakneck speed – 500 pages covers only 2 or 3 days of activity. Basically as soon as the villain is revealed, the author puts his floor on the accelerator and doesn’t let off. I’m so glad I reread this as I’d forgotten a few key pieces of information (and had my heart broken all over again). Looking like I won’t get to LOCKLANDS until early June because of some MASSIVE books in line ahead of it (looking at you, THE DISCORD OF GODS), but I’m all refreshed and ready to start!
Probable Next Read: THE TETHERED MAGE by Melissa Caruso
I swore to myself this year would be the year I FINALLY read THE TETHERED MAGE and gave this series a try. And since it’s been on at least two of my Wyrd and Wonder TBRs in the past, this seems a fitting month to make it happen! So we’re putting ARC reading on hold and giving this political fantasy a whirl. It’s set in world where any person born with magical gifts is taken as a child and scripted into a special army. Two women, one a mage, one an heiress of the political elite, find their lives bound together as war looms on the horizon. Hope I like this one, it’s been on my list for years!
Are you partaking in Wyrd and Wonder? What are you reading in May?
