Currently Reading: REIGN & RUIN by J.D. Evans, THE INVISIBLE LIBRARY by Genevieve Cogman and THE WAY OF KINGS by Brandon Sanderson
This week, I picked up my self-published read for the month, REIGN & RUIN! This SPFBO winner is a fantasy romance, and I have to say, I’m really enjoying it! The basic premise is that a prince and princess of rival mage kingdoms are trying to negotiate an alliance before a third kingdom decides to try and attack and conquer them both. I’m really loving the balance of politics and slowburn romance, and think there’s a good possibility I’m going to continue with this series.
For my backburner read, I started THE INVISIBLE LIBRARY. I’ve been reading a lot of “heavier” fantasy tomes, so I wanted more of a romp to turn to. This is certainly doing the trick! It follows a secret society that travels between alternate dimensions to steal copies of books unique to that “alternate.” The focus of this mission is an alternate London that has vampires, fae, and steampunk technology. And to complicate things further, someone has already stolen the book the Librarians are after by the time they show up to collect it. I said this is my “backburner” read, but I’ve definitely been sneaking a lot of time with it when I can, and I suspect this series may be a focus for a while!
Under 7 hours to go with THE WAY OF KINGS! While I don’t think I’ll have quiiite enough time to finish it in March, April is definitely a doable goal. I’ll probably give myself a little break before picking up the audiobook of WORDS OF RADIANCE, but at this point, I plan on continuing with my reread project this year.
Recently Finished: WE DREAM OF GODS by Devin Madson and ROSE/HOUSE by Arkady Martine
I finished the fourth and final book in the REBORN EMPIRE quartet. You can read my review, but I found this a solid outing, if a bit frustrating with some circular plot beats. Overall I enjoyed my time with this series though, it might be for you if you like slow burn political fantasy!
I also read the novella ROSE/HOUSE and was surprised that this just didn’t work for me. I’m a big fan of Martine’s A MEMORY CALLED EMPIRE, and loved the premise of a locked house murder mystery. But while there were some aspects of the storytelling that worked for me, this was very much a book focused on atmosphere, but there wasn’t enough time to really SIT in the atmosphere. I’m currently in the minority in my feelings based on Goodreads reviews, so perhaps check out some other reviews to see if this feels right for you.
Probable Next Read: UNTETHERED SKY by Fonda Lee and/or THE BONE SHARD WAR by Andrea Stewart
After a bounce into the backlist pile, I’m back to the ARC pile! First up, a novella by Fonda Lee about a woman who hunts monsters in order to avenge her family. Sign me up! I’m also strongly considering THE BONE SHARD WAR for this week. My only hesitation is it is a physically big book, and I’m taking a trip in the near future where I might not want to be lugging that bad boy around. We’ll see how the timing works out!
I’m glad you’re enjoying THE INVISIBLE LIBRARY! I loved the premise of that one, but the book itself didn’t work for me. I know I’m in the minority on that, though, and I do love seeing other people enjoy it.

It’s a nice light popcorn read, which is exactly what I needed when I picked it up!
